Meet Me In St. Louis
Year: 1944
Directed by: Vincente Minnelli
Starring: Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien, Mary Astor, Lucille Bremer, Tom Drake, Marjorie Main
1940s MGM meets Norman Rockwell in turn-of-the-century St Louis during Christmas and World’s Fair excitement. Except for booooring Tom Drake, the cast is delightful: Judy is fantastic, Margaret O’Brien is over-the-top cute (too much so for some), Mary Astor is a wonderful mother, Leon Ames is an appealing too-busy father, Harry Davenport is Doc Meade again (which is a good thing), and Marjorie Main is Marjorie Main (thank God). Kleenex is needed when Judy sings “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

It’s really well-made, and during the holidays, it’s fun. It’s a little too cute and predictable at times, but still enjoyable. Sometimes I felt like an extra cocktail would make this move a little faster.
